Owner Profiles: Storm Thomas
Editor's Note: This is the first in a series of feature stories on the men who make up the Erie Fantasy Football League. In order to be featured, you must respond to the official Erie League survey.
Ever since his debut in 1994, Gargoyles owner Storm Thomas has had the reputation of a trash talker.
"I respect everyone," Thomas said. "Yet, during the season
I go through this transformation and I become an ogre. I like talking shit
so don't take it personal -- it is all in fun and jest."
In addition to his colorful quotes, the 25-year-old graduate student at Ohio University has also shown a real talent for making unusual trades. Earlier this year, Thomas became the first owner in history to trade a player (Irving Fryar) for a call-in slot.
Storm said he believes that particular move will make his drive for a second league title more challenging.
"Now that Fryar and Detmer are gone, I think my chances have reduced drastically," he said. "I will need to give up some players but hopefully I'll finally make a decent trade and strengthen my lineup."
Currently sporting an overall record of 25-25, Storm considers the Bonecrushers his biggest rival and Donikers owner Sam Profio as the brightest "new" owner. As for his greatest moment in the Erie League, he said it had to be winning the 1994 Fantasy Bowl over Brad Rzyczycki.
"Beating the Cosmic Monsters twice in one year was an incredible way to begin my tenure in the league," Thomas said. "I think he still cries about it at night!"
